Our office recommend your children to visit us for an orthodontic consultation around 7 years old, At this age, the incisors and the first permanent molars have usually erupted by this time, potential problems and growth issues can be identified. 

While an early examination does not always result in immediate treatment, it does allow our dentists to determine if early intervention orthodontics is necessary, and when would be the best time to begin treatment. Most orthodontic patients typically begin treatment between 9 to 14 years old.

Early Intervention - Phase 1 Treatment

The main goal of early intervention treatment is to guide the permanent teeth into their proper position and to ensure proper development of the jaw.

Below are some possible indications that your child may need early interception orthodontics:

  • Mouth breathing

  • Crowded teeth

  • Protruding teeth

  • Difficulty in chewing and biting

  • Thumb sucking

  • Early or late loss of baby teeth

  • Speech problems

The goals of early intervention treatments are:

  • To create room for crowded, erupting teeth

  • To preserve space for un-erupted permanent teeth

  • To establish facial symmetry by modifying jaw growth

Resting Period

Interceptive orthodontic treatments usually last for a short period of time, after that, there is a resting period while the rest of the permanent teeth are allow to erupt naturally, and our dentists observe the case in the mean time.

Second Phase Treatment - Embrace Your Beautiful Smile

Phase 2 treatments, or comprehensive orthodontics, usually begin when all the permanent teeth are in. Typically, tradition braces or ceramic braces are used to align the teeth, harmonize the lips, cheek and jaw. The result is a healthy and beautiful smile.
