Some reasons are:

  • Align teeth and correct bite
  • Build self-esteem
  • Improve oral hygiene
  • Easier brushing and flossing
  • Prepare for other dental work
  • Better digestion
  • Higher quality of life
We recommend children to be put under orthodontic observation around 7 years old. Children sometimes show signs of jaw and teeth eruption problems at this age. Early detection of the problems may translate into easier correction later on. This group of children may benefit from early interception treatment, which helps them to develop their jaw and allow the teeth to come into proper position. Orthodontic treatments typically begin around 9 to 14 years old.
Avoid hard and sticky foods. Meat needs to be removed from bones, and the pit needs to be removed from fruits before you bite into them. Otherwise, you may risk bending the wires and knocking off the brackets. Soft food is recommended at the beginning of treatments and after all adjustments.
Hard and sticky foods can knock off brackets, which in turn will lead to increase treatment time. Please cut up apples into small pieces when you eat them. Our experienced dentists and our caring hygienists will give you the information you need before you go home after the placement of braces.
Placement of brackets does not hurt at all. The teeth may be uncomfortable for a few days after you get your braces or after an adjustment appointment. Tylenol or Advil can be taken to ease the discomfort.
Yes, retainers are needed to keep your teeth in position as soon as your braces are removed. This retention phase is very important because the teeth can move back to their original position if retainers are not worn according to instructions. Our dentists will discuss with you what kind and how long you need to wear the retainers after the braces come off.
